MoveOn Statement On Kennedy Jr. Not Qualifying for the Debate Stage
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s attempts to make his way onto the presidential debate stage despite having no path to 270 electoral votes, MoveOn Political Action Chief Communications Officer Joel Payne released the following statement:
“Presidential debates are reserved for candidates who actually have a chance to win, not candidates who have no path to 270 Electoral College votes. Kennedy Jr. will just have to find another venue to spew his conspiracy theories and outline his latest extreme anti-abortion position.”
As CNN’s debate qualifying standards state, “A candidate’s name must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency prior to the eligibility deadline” – a threshold that Kennedy Jr. has yet to reach.
