MoveOn: Our Elected Leaders Should Reject “Cruel, Extremist” Immigration Measures
Washington, D.C. — In response to the release of the Senate border proposal that was recently announced, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting issued the following statement:
“MoveOn’s millions of members believe in commonsense solutions and reform to our nation’s immigration system, but we cannot accept cruel, extremist policies and compromises that gut our humanity in the process. It’s clear that our broken immigration system is not working for anyone, and instead of operating in good faith, Republicans have chosen to follow Donald Trump and MAGA’s push for failed, inhumane policies that do not match our nation’s values.
“Our elected leaders should reject measures that use harmful, ineffective policies to separate families, punish children, and betray those coming to our country to seek the American Dream.
“We need more resources to modernize our nation’s immigration system so that we can effectively process asylum claims with due process and protect those seeking refuge from persecution. We cannot turn away from this duty and our values.”
