MoveOn Urges Joe Manchin Not to Run as No Labels Candidate
Washington, D.C. – In response to Joe Manchin suggesting he may run as a third-party candidate, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting released the following statement:
“If Joe Manchin runs on the No Labels ticket, he would be responsible for sending Donald Trump back to the White House. Every independent analyst reaches the same conclusion: a No Labels ticket has no chance of winning a single electoral college vote in any state. Instead, their campaign would only ensure Trump’s re-election. We cannot risk going back to four more years of extremist policies that would destroy our democracy and fundamental freedoms. Joe Manchin should set the record straight on whose side he is on and reject any overtures from No Labels’ dangerous ploy.”
Last night, Rachel Maddow said: “The whole No Labels thing is by people who are hoping that Donald Trump is going to get elected and that they can peel off seemingly moderate voters from voting for a Democratic incumbent president.” Watch the clip here.
MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting appeared on NPR’s Open to Debate earlier this month and laid out how No Labels has no path to 2024 and challenged the party to release its dark money donors. Epting also penned an opinion piece in MSNBC with Third Way’s Executive Vice President Matt Bennett outlining how high the stakes are to stop No Labels.
