MoveOn Statement on Trump Admin Arresting Political Opponents
WASHINGTON – In response to the Trump administration bringing federal charges against Representative LaMonica McIver (D-NJ), MoveOn Civic Action Executive Director Rahna Epting released the following statement:
“We are in dangerous territory now that the president of the United States is arresting anyone who disagrees with him. If he can get away with arresting a sitting member of Congress, a judge, or a student, he can arrest anybody. MoveOn and our members have Rep. McIver’s back, and we will not let the Trump administration intimidate us into silence.
“It is our fundamental, constitutional right as Americans to express our political opinion without fear of our own government imprisoning us. To stop President Trump and every single member of the Republican Party who is complicit in his attempted takeover of our country, it will take all of us speaking out.”
