Washington State Ban on Natural Gas Heating Is All Cost, No Benefit

The Washington State Building Code Council, an unelected board that governs construction standards, on Nov. 4 decided to effectively ban natural gas heating in new-construction homes and office buildings. Advocates of the new restrictions admitted reluctantly that their new requirements will increase the cost of housing, but perhaps even more notable is that the new rules will do nothing to advance the purported goal; namely, reducing the state’s CO2 emissions. The combination of artificially high cost and no benefit makes the new regulations a textbook example of how some politicians…

Why a ‘Democrat-Leaning Open Seat’ in California Is So Competitive

A California congressional district that had previously been labeled a “Democrat-leaning open seat” has become a “toss up,” according to some analysts as Election Day nears.  Republican candidate John Duarte and Democrat candidate Adam Gray are running to represent California’s 13th Congressional District in Tuesday’s general election.  Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., currently represents California’s 13th Congressional District after defeating Republican candidate Nikka Piterman in Nov. 2020 with 90.4% of the vote compared to Piterman’s 9.6%. Due to redistricting after the 2020 census, Lee is running for office in California’s 12th Congressional District, which is currently held by House…

House-Passed ‘Right to Contraception’ Bill Creates Problems, Doesn’t Solve Them

The Left has pushed a radical pro-abortion agenda across the country ever since the Supreme Court’s June 24 decision to correct a grave error by overturning Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand. In the states, the Left has responded to the high court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization by promoting taxpayer-funded abortion “tourism,” flouting state abortion laws, and seeking  to enshrine so-called abortion rights in state constitutions. At the federal level, the Biden administration announced executive actions to promote abortion and abortion travel, particularly under the…

Biden Claims Congress ‘Passed’ His Student Loan Forgiveness Plan. It Didn’t.

President Joe Biden recently said Congress approved his plan to “forgive” student loan debt.   While talking with a group of young people at the White House during an on-camera interview published Sunday by NowThis News, Biden said he had “just signed a law” that would forgive $ 20,000 in student debt for Pell Grant recipients and $ 10,000 for all borrowers earning less than $ 125,000 a year.   “It’s passed. I got it passed by a vote or two, and it’s in effect,” Biden said.   Actually, Biden used executive action…

At Least 11 States Say No to Mandatory COVID-19 Shots for Kids

At least 11 states have rejected or are expected to reject a recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that pediatricians give COVID-19 shots to children along with other vaccines. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices unanimously decided Thursday to add COVID-19 shots to the children’s immunization schedule, which some schools and states use to create vaccination requirements. Many states, however, have laws in place that prohibit schools from requiring a COVID-19 vaccination for students. The Wyoming Department of Health said it will not add the COVID-19 vaccine to…

A new report offers harrowing insight into the strength of Communist China’s military a day after Chinese President Xi Jinping renewed calls for the “reunification” of China and Taiwan. “Resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese, a matter that must be resolved by the Chinese,” Xi said Sunday at the opening session for the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing. “We will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort, but we will never promise to renounce…
