We Hear You: Inflation Isn’t a ‘High-Class Problem’

Editor’s note: Some observations on rising inflation from The Daily Signal’s audience are among those that caught our attention this week. As usual, you can send your own comments to the mailbag at letters@dailysignal.com.—Ken McIntyre Dear Daily Signal: I don’t know what a “high-class problem” is supposed to be, per David Harsanyi’s commentary (“Biden White House Will Pay for Playing Inflation Games“). My wife and I are decidedly middle class and we live frugally. Nonetheless, prices at the gas pump continue to increase and grocery goods are difficult to obtain. We…

The Year in Unhinged Liberal Celebrities’ Freakouts

Despite the triumph of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, liberal celebrities didn’t get much happier in 2021. It began with Donald Trump refusing to concede that he lost the presidential election. A year ago, one actor engaged in violent fantasies over this stubborn resistance to the facts. “Who arrests Trump if he refuses to concede? Who drags him out? Pepper spray? Cuffs?” That sounds like an action movie. But then it turned threatening: “A knee on his neck, cutting off his oxygen? Does he wheeze ‘I can’t breathe'(?) Just whale away…

2 California Teachers Accused of Encouraging Student’s Clandestine Gender Transition

Two teachers in a California school district are accused of coaching a student into coming out as transgender behind the backs of the student’s parents, according to video footage circulating on social media. Restraint and the Tornado Tragedy

Some politicians and government officials can’t let a crisis go to waste. In the matter of the tornadoes that devastated parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri, restraint was called for, but went unanswered. Asked about the cause of such devastation, President Joe Biden said, “We all know everything is more intense when the climate is warming.” He later walked back the comment to a “wait-and-see” position. Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell also blamed climate change, saying such disasters will be the “new normal” from now on.…

On Bill of Rights Day, Christian Group Says Hope Isn’t Lost on Next Generation

What if former President Ronald Reagan was right? What if freedom really is never more than “one generation away from extinction,” as the then-governor of California said during his inaugural address in 1967.  A Purcellville, Virginia-based Christian youth group called Generation Joshua has heeded Reagan’s warning and is working tirelessly to empower and educate teenagers to become future leaders of our nation.  The organization exists “to teach high school students about their country, where it comes from, why it’s free, and how to keep it that way,” Joel Grewe, the…

Medals for Jumping to Conclusions About Jussie Smollett

If love means never having to say you’re sorry (it doesn’t), then being a member of the media means never having to admit you were wrong (it does). I wouldn’t write about the Jussie Smollett case and his conviction for lying about a hoax he perpetrated if it didn’t reflect something seriously wrong in the culture. Smollett was convicted in Chicago last week of faking an attack by a supposed Trump-MAGA man he claimed uttered racist and homophobic slurs. Normally, I would ignore this story, along with other tabloid trash…
