Tony Bennett: More Than a ‘Crooner’

It was in the early ’60s. I was a copy boy at NBC News and the overnight disc jockey for the local radio station called and asked if I’d like to go on a boat ride down the Potomac River with his guest, Tony Bennett. For several hours we cruised past some of Washington’s most famous landmarks. Tony let me take a picture of him, shirtless and with a big smile on his face. He later signed it and I have kept it framed in my office ever since. Bennett,…

How MoveOn Is Working to Support the LGBTQ+ Community

The LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender folks, is under attack from Republicans. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, nearly 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have gone before state legislatures since the start of this year alone, and anti-trans bills have doubled since 2022. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed several anti-LGBTQ+ bills, which Joe Saunders, senior political director of Equality Florida, called “an all-out attack on freedom.” One bill prohibits transgender children from receiving gender-affirming care, while another restricts teachers, faculty, and students from using the pronouns of their choice in…

Sen. Grassley puts hold on Biden’s deputy VA pick

The federal government is setting a new record for overall small business contract spending. More than a quarter of federal contracting dollars went to small businesses last year. Today’s installment: Cornel West, unlikely MAGA accessory. West, the famed academic and civil-rights activist, is a Green Party candidate for president. He probably will not win. Not a single state or, in all likelihood, a single electoral vote. But he remains a persistent object of concern around the president these days. I’ve talked with many of these White House worrywarts, along with their counterparts…

Far-Left Hate Group Attacks Vance Bill, Falsely Claims Kids Can’t Get Trans Procedures

A far-left, pro-transgender group is attacking legislation put forward by Republican Ohio Sen. JD Vance that would ban euphemistic “gender-affirming care” for children, such as transgender surgeries, hormones, and puberty blockers. GLAAD, formerly known as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, is a defender of the anti-Catholic “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” a group of trans-identifying and queer activists who mock the Catholic faith, including with sexual depictions of Jesus Christ’s death. GLAAD also has strongly objected to the removal of explicit and pornographic books from school libraries. The organization…
