We rallied. We created art. We gathered thousands of pounds of food and other donations for our communities. But most importantly, we built community. Tens of thousands of individuals showed up at hundreds of events across the country on Saturday to set the record straight: Our families must come first, not billionaire tax breaks. House lawmakers have unveiled a bipartisan Coast Guard authorization bill that seeks to address the service’s personnel shortages and aging equipment, while also creating stronger protections for service members from sexual assault and harassment. The Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025, introduced this week by leaders of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, would authorize funding for the service through 2029. Coast Guard’s cultural failings around sexual misconduct are not limited to the service’s academy but extend to the entire service, a congressional probe has found.
