MoveOn to CNN: Don’t Give Trump Free Airtime
WASHINGTON – Ahead of tomorrow’s planned CNN town hall with former President Donald Trump, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting issued the following statement:
“If CNN goes through with its planned town hall with Donald Trump tomorrow, the news network will be providing a noted insurrectionist, liar, and conspiracy theorist with free, unfiltered airtime with only limited live fact-checking. CNN will be platforming someone who has already shown that he will use his voice to inspire violence and bigotry with no remorse. This decision by CNN is dangerous and indefensible and should be reversed immediately.
“Just in the last few months, Trump has doubled down on his election conspiracy theories and denialism, proposed terminating the Constitution, and inspired hate and violence toward a prosecutor in New York who is rightfully holding him accountable for alleged crimes. There is no justification for giving this individual an infomercial to sow more societal chaos. That’s why nearly 200,000 MoveOn members have signed a petition calling on CNN to stop covering Trump live and start fact-checking every single statement that comes from his mouth.”
