Don’t Both-Sides This One, Joe

Updated at 9:05 a.m. ET on May 3, 2024 President Joe Biden will make a speech on anti-Semitism on Tuesday, May 7, by way of observing the Holocaust remembrance in the Jewish religious calendar. If the speech is not to fail, or even backfire, the president needs to be very clear in his mind about what he has to say, and why. The questions Biden needs to answer on Tuesday are not questions about beliefs or values. They are not questions about himself or his personal commitments. They are questions…

ICYMI: USA Today: “No Labels tells me they don’t want to be a 2024 election spoiler. It’s time to prove it.”

Rahna Epting: “They’re inconsistent. They’re unclear. The math doesn’t add up.”  READ THE STORY HERE Washington, D.C. – A new piece from USA Today highlights No Labels’ third-party campaign, supported by dark money and a secret nomination process that is nearly universally believed to be a spoiler effort to reelect Trump.  “They are contradicting themselves regularly,” MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting says in the story. “They’re inconsistent. Why Attacks on Trump’s Mental Acuity Don’t Land

Ten years ago, I stood in the back of a large room at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, watching Donald Trump ramble. The celebrity billionaire had been loitering on the fringes of American politics for a few years, but this was my first time seeing him give a proper speech. At least, that’s what I thought he was supposed to be doing. Speaking at the Politics & Eggs forum is a rite of passage for presidential aspirants, and Trump at the time was going through his quadrennial ritual of…

MoveOn to CNN: Don’t Give Trump Free Airtime

WASHINGTON – Ahead of tomorrow’s planned CNN town hall with former President Donald Trump, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting issued the following statement: “If CNN goes through with its planned town hall with Donald Trump tomorrow, the news network will be providing a noted insurrectionist, liar, and conspiracy theorist with free, unfiltered airtime with only limited live fact-checking. CNN will be platforming someone who has already shown that he will use his voice to inspire violence and bigotry with no remorse. This decision by CNN is dangerous and…

What Democrats Don’t Understand About Ron Johnson

APPLETON, Wisconsin—Senator Ron Johnson was midway through a rambling speech on all that’s wrong with America—his villains included runaway debt, the porous southern border, gender-affirming medical treatment, and FDR’s New Deal—when he paused for a moment of self-reflection. “It’s a huge mess,” Johnson said of the country. “I really ought to have the people who introduce me warn audiences: I’m not the most uplifting character.” A few people in the not-quite-packed crowd at the FreedomProject Academy, a drab, low-slung private school, chuckled. The 67-year-old Republican, stumping for a third term…

Don’t Draft Our Daughters—or Anyone Else

Last year, Congress considered a very bad and ill-considered idea. With no debate and no real scrutiny, there was an effort to add to the annual National Defense Authorization Act a provision to require young women to register for military conscription. The provision was dropped. Proponents will quietly try to add it again this year. It’s still a bad idea. Conservatives in Congress should have nothing to do with this wrongheaded proposal. Before Congress blithely signs off on drafting our daughters, it first ought to consider the question—is that what…
