Dem Senator Scolds Moreno Over Shutdown, Misses Key Points

Heated exchanges on Capitol Hill over what’s been dubbed the Schumer shutdown are becoming the norm. The latest dustup involves Ohio’s own Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno and Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., during Wednesday’s Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation meeting. The fiery exchange over shutdown blame and claims of hypocrisy was noticed by Donald Trump Jr., who applauded Moreno over X. “More of this please,” Don. Jr. said. “More Republicans like @berniemoreno calling Democrats out for their bull**** and propaganda right to their face.” In response to the first…

Senator Van Hollen Calls for Kilmar Garcia’s return and an End to Trump’s Power Abuse

Kilmar Abrego Garcia still isn’t home, despite the Supreme Court’s unanimous order to facilitate his return. Last week, Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland travelled to El Salvador to check on Kilmar’s well-being. Days after he returned, he joined MoveOn’s monthly Volunteer Network Call to provide a report-back on his visit with Kilmar and to sound the alarm on what this injustice means for all of us. “This case is not about one man alone,” Sen. Van Hollen said. “It’s about all of us. It’s about our Constitution. It’s about…

Senator calls out USPS leadership as first-class financial failures

Senate Democrats are telling the Postal Service to rethink its 10-year reform plan. Sen. The senators are also skeptical about plans to grow the package business, which is not bringing in enough money to make up the difference. They warn that higher mail prices are also driving away more USPS customers and that the agency is falling short of its break-even goal. The senators are calling on members of…

A Senator Who Loved to Kibitz

Say what you will about Joe Lieberman, the self-described “Independent Democrat” senator from Connecticut and onetime Democratic vice-presidential candidate. He was many things—honorable, devout, sanctimonious, maddening, and unfailingly warm and decent—all of which have been unpacked since his death yesterday, at 82. He elicited strong reactions, often from Democrats, over his various apostasies to liberal orthodoxy. But what I’ll miss and remember most about Lieberman was that the man loved to kibitz. It is something of a lost art, at least the in-person version, which has largely given over to…

Oregon senator urges Biden to fire Social Security IG

President Joe Biden is getting calls to remove the top watchdog at the Social Security Administration. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said he’s “lost confidence” in SSA Inspector General Gail Ennis, and he is calling on the president to fire her. Wyden said the IG office during her tenure has been hit with complaints of a hostile work environment, falling productivity and a drop in employee morale. The Merit Systems Protection Board recently found Ennis and her leadership team retaliated against an employee for blowing the whistle on…

MoveOn New Jersey Members Vote In Support of Calls for Senator Bob Menendez to Resign

Washington, D.C. – MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting today released the following statement: “Nearly 80% of New Jersey MoveOn members surveyed voted in favor of Senator Menendez’s resignation following the recent federal bribery charges. Our members believe that Senator Menendez has violated the public trust and is no longer fit to represent his constituents in the United States Senate. It is apparent that remaining in his role would only distract from the important work that his constituents rely upon their congressional representatives for. Our MoveOn members have made…
